Dear Parents,
I hope that everyone enjoys their winter break and time together! When we return to school I will begin testing kindergartners for GT. I will meet with my regular GT classes on Tuesday, 1/8 to welcome them back. Classes will be canceled on Wednesday and Thursday as I will be doing the ability testing (3-4 parts) with two groups. These are the only two days that will need to be canceled to complete testing.
Following are the activities that kept us busy the last two weeks.
First Grade The students spent the last two weeks building and programing with Lego WeDo kits. They each completed several projects and really enjoyed the experience. This week we reviewed our logical thinking skills by completing an "Ugly Sweater" logical reasoning problem. They were really good at identifying the information from the clues and knowing how to record our learning on the matrices. Today we tried to make a light up Rudolph with a closed circuit...unfortunately we ran out of time before we could get them to work! We'll try again after the break!
Second Grade The students tinkered with the WeDo kits for a couple of days to make sure they were working properly for the first graders. They also created agamographs. Some children added them to their perspective books and others carried them home separately. We're done with perspective and will be moving on to games when we return from break.
Third Grade: We studied the parts of blood, what the different parts do and different types of blood. We learned about blood pressure and did a simulation of squeezing a tennis ball every second for a minute to understand how hard our hearts work. Nurse Sansom reviewed what we had learned about blood pressure, talked about ways to keep our hearts healthy and took each students' blood pressure.
Fourth Grade The students chose a culture that we hadn't studied to research. They identified their culture's cultural universals and created a short presentation to share with the class. When we return from the break the students will begin working in teams to create their own cultures.
Fifth Grade All groups finished their Hill Country Galleria business proposals this week! They turned out amazing! I will let you know when and where they are displayed and I hope that you'll visit them in person. Stay tuned!
