I can't believe how quickly my first year teaching GT has gone! I have greatly enjoyed my time with your children. I have learned a great deal with and from them. I'm looking forward to reflecting upon this year and planning for the next during the summer. I'll be sending a link to a google form that I would greatly appreciate you encouraging or helping your child to complete for me!
I will use this to guide our time for next year.
Here is a quick recap of the last couple of weeks for each grade:
kindergarten We did some STEM activities based on the books After the Fall and The Three Little Pigs. The students built walls for Humpty Dumpty to sit upon. We tested the safety of him falling wrapped in materials of their choosing. They then built chairs to keep him sitting safely. After reading the 3 Little Pigs they built straw, stick and brick houses. We tested their strength with the Big Bad Blow Dryer. The last week the students explored with programming the Dash robot using the app Blockly where they could program the robot however they wished. Our last day they tried to complete a challenge by driving Dash around a barrier and trying to get close to a taped X. They really enjoyed using these!
first grade The students used their notes to create beautiful information sheets to prepare for their animal presentations. They have practiced sharing their information and we're looking forward to parents visiting tomorrow!
second grade Games were finally completed today! They have worked hard on these and look forward to playing with parents on Thursday afternoon!
third grade Third graders completed their inventions last week and made a sheet to advertise their invention. Today they presented them to their classmates and look forward to parents visiting tomorrow!
fourth grade The students worked hard building their bases for paper-macheing. They paper-mached on Friday (thank you to the moms who came for lunch and jumped in to help us finish!!). They will paint and add details the next two days. We can't wait for you to see them on Friday afternoon for our Famous Building Tour!
fifth grade The students made robo-dogs and have been working on programming them for a dog agility show. I wish we had more time for programming but we don't! They will demonstrate what they've had time to accomplish with their dogs on Thursday morning.
